Biography

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need with a primary focus on the African American community; the first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913; Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated in 1930.

Scope and Contents The papers date from 1947 to 2018 and are arranged alphabetically by topic. The papers contain awards, speeches, small amounts of correspondence and law office documents, and a scrapbook prepared to celebrate Mrs. Freeman’s 80th birthday.
